The SME That Grew 700%

Good product, loyal customers, stalled growth — and a founder spending all their time in the business.

A few years ago I started working with a business that had real potential.

Good product. Loyal customers. A founder who cared deeply about what they were building. But growth had stalled. The strategy was unclear. The team wasn't aligned around priorities. And the founder was spending most of their time in the business rather than on it.

We worked on three things. Clarity of direction — where the business was actually going and why. The team — how they operated together and what each person was accountable for. And the commercial model — how they were pricing, positioning and winning.

None of it was complicated. But it required honest conversations, some difficult decisions, and consistent follow-through.

Over the following year, revenue grew by 700%. Margin improved by 31 percentage points. The founder built a business they were proud of — and a team capable of running it without them in every room.

The numbers are real. But the number isn't the point. The point is that the potential was always there. It just needed some clarity, some structure and someone prepared to ask the uncomfortable questions.
