On Visible Leadership

People want leaders who show up — not performatively, genuinely.

One of the cultural commitments we made on the Kraken project was something we called visible leadership. It sounds simple.

Be present. Be available. Be seen — not in a performative way, but genuinely among your people, in their spaces, during their work.

In practice it was one of the most powerful things we did. Because when leaders are visible, a few things happen.

Trust builds faster. People don't have to wonder what the leaders think — they find out directly. Problems surface earlier. When people feel comfortable talking to you, they tell you things before they become crises. And the culture becomes real. It's one thing to put values on a wall. It's another to walk them every day in front of the people you lead.

Visible leadership isn't just about being physically present. It's about showing up in a way that tells people: you matter, what you're doing matters, and I'm here. That's a leadership choice. Not a programme. And it costs nothing except time and intention.
