Leadership Teams & Culture

The 535-Day Marker

What one major project taught me about culture, trust and safety.

One of the results I'm most proud of from my time on the Kraken development project wasn't a financial number.

It was 535 days without a lost-time injury or reportable incident. In a high-risk environment with 350 people across multiple locations and contractors.

That didn't happen because of rules and procedures. It happened because of culture. Because people felt ownership. Because they trusted each other. Because speaking up was expected, not punished.

Safety and performance aren't separate conversations. They're the same conversation. When you get the culture right — when people are genuinely engaged and feel like they belong — everything else improves.

That's as true in a manufacturing business, a food business, on a farm, in a tech business, as it is on an oil rig.
